BIOGRAPHY: .Katharine
began her studies in the harp at age 11 under the tutelage of Maureen McKay at
the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Ontario. Two years before she graduated
from high school she began to study with Judy Loman, Professor of Harp at the
University of Toronto and Principal Harpist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Katharine continued to study with Ms. Loman as she pursued her Bachelor of Music
in Performance at the University of Toronto, and she graduated with honours in
1999. From there she moved to Montreal to complete a Masters degree at McGill
University under Jennifer Swartz, Professor of Harp at McGill University and Principal
Harpist of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Katharine completed her Master of
Music in Performance at McGill in 2001. Katharine has been a member of the National
Youth Orchestra of Canada (1997) and spent two summers as a scholarship student
at the Aspen Music Festival and School in Aspen Colorado, (1999, 2000) where she
studied with New York harpists Stacey Shames and Nancy Allen. She has played with
the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the McGill Symphony Orchestra.
She has also been a semi-finalist (1999) and finalist (2002) in the American String
Teacher's Association Solo String Competition.
Katharine has
performed solo recitals in Walter Hall at the University of Toronto (March 1998,
February 1999), and at Redpath Hall at McGill University (March 2000, December
2000). She has worked many of the major orchestras in Quebec including L'Orchestre
Symphonique du Trois Rivières, L'Orchestre Symphonique du Quebec and Les
Violons du Roy. |
